WildStar Fashion No Longer Maintained
Due to the extreme difficulty in obtaining screenshots of armor sets in WildStar, the Community Managers’ very narrow definition of an acceptable Fan Site, and my personal dislike of the game aesthetics, I will no longer be updating WildStar Fashion/Wild Star Decorating. WildStar Fashion will remain available for Customized Sets, but I will be taking WildStar Decorating down.
I will continue to maintain an account with WildStar and if the situation changes in the future, I may look into picking this project up again.
Bummer! Anything you can share on what happened? Seems really unfortunate for people looking to find costuming/housing ideas in the game…very disappointing.
It was a combination of factors.
First is that without an in-game preview, it’s nearly impossible to get screenshots of all the armor sets. I was using Galaxy Library, but that hasn’t been updated since before launch. They’ve also made it very difficult to find out what is available for purchase because you can’t even see what a vendor has that you can’t wear. That means leveling a minimum of 12 characters (one of each class for both factions). I just don’t have the time for that.
Second, I submitted a request to the Community Team to be included in their Fan Site page, but was refused because “there is no editorial or original content on it.” It’s extremely difficult to get a new fan site going when you don’t have the support of the game’s community team.
I’ll be keeping WildStar Fashion going for the Customized Sets submissions, but won’t be attempting to add in-game armor and weapons for the foreseeable future. There are plenty of other options for housing, so won’t be maintaining WildStar Decorations.
Not to argue for or against this, but this addon: http://www.curse.com/ws-addons/wildstar/220427-itempreviewimproved works well to preview items.
I tried that first. At the time, I couldn’t rotate the preview so I could get shots of all sides of the armor, so I switched to Galaxy Library.
ItemPreviewImproved doesn’t negate the fact I have to level multiple characters because I have to be able to click on the item to see the previews. I could open Galaxy Library anywhere.
With Galaxy Library, I was able to create 13 characters (one of each race – combining Cassian/Human, both genders – one for Chua) and just log into the game to get the screen shots. At first, I didn’t need to level more than one character. Unfortunately, it was very difficult to use Galaxy Library because there was no way to tell where to obtain an item. I had to level a character on each faction, and get the vendor names so I could look up on a data base what each vendor sold and try to extrapolate which version was intended for each class.
With ItemPreviewImproved, I would need to level 180 characters (12 classes x 15 races, both genders) to be able to visit every single vendor and get screen shots for every single class and race combo, both genders. Now we are talking several accounts, not just multiple servers. It’s just not feasible to be able to do this.
